This anthology is a collection of critical essays on the works of Joseph Conrad and highlights their relevance in the contemporary literary scenario. It includes contributions of scholars from India, USA, Germany, Spain, Taiwan and South Africa and is representative of the continued and growing interest in Conradian studies across the world. The collection presents re-readings of Heart of Darkness, Lord Jim, Nostromo, Typhoon, Under Western Eyes, The Shadow-Line, Karain : A Memory, and The Partner in the framework of postcolonial, postmodern, feminist, moral and biographical approaches and brings out the multivalency of Conrad’s fiction.

Lalitha Ramamurthi taught at the Research Centre, Department of English, All Saints’ College, Trivandrum. She is the recipient of the Sivaprasad Award for the Most Outstanding College Teacher in the State (1996). She has participated and presented papers at the First International Language Conference, University of Cologne, Germany; International Conference on Joseph Conrad, Poland; and the Asia Pacific Conference at Kuala Lumpur. Her publications include A History of English Language and Elements of Phonetics (Macmillan) and a number of research articles.

C.T. Indra was Professor and Head of the Department of English at the University of Madras. She has been the recipient of the Fulbright Post-doctoral Fellowship at Harvard University; British Council Visitorship at Cambridge and the American Research Fellowship at the University of California. She has published Coleridge : Biographia Literaria — A Selection (Macmillan); Practical Criticism with V.S. Sethuraman and T. Sriraman (Macmillan); Heart of Darkness (Macmillan); and Teaching Poetry at the Advanced Level (T.R. Publications).
